The gym buzzed with excitement on March 22, 2024 as the third game of the highly anticipated seniors vs. facilitators was about to unfold. After two consecutive defeats in volleyball and kickball, the facilitators were determined to turn the tide and secure a victory in the basketball showdown. The seniors were confident in their ability to absolutely destroy the facilitators due to their athleticism and drive.
Mrs. Haun, the referee started the game with a tipoff. Right off of the rip, the facilitators got the ball. Mr. Broadstreet drove up the court, crossing up all he encountered. When he was just beyond the half-court line, he passed to Mr. Granado who put it up, getting the first point of the game. Throughout the first quarter, Mr. Grando showed why the facilitators chose him as the center, rebounding missed shots and putting them up, getting crucial points for his team. Garrett Campbell on the senior’s team made an outstanding effort, pushing up the court and shooting many times. Although the seniors had many opportunities, they unfortunately were not able to make many of their shots and were up by a small margin as the first quarter ended at 10-8 seniors.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Mr. Broadstreet steals the ball and makes a shot just shy of the three-point line, tying the score 10-10. He starts making point after point in the second quarter. Most notably, he made an insane play, sprinting from the left side of the court straight to the hoop and making an up-and-under layup, resulting in the score 14-12 facilitators. He made the exact same play again 2 points later, making the score 18-12 facilitators. His best play yet was a step back 3-pointer, making the score 20-12.
The seniors request a timeout at 2 minutes and 3 seconds until the start of the 3rd quarter with the score at 22-12 facilitators. This timeout was a crucial point in the game as the seniors saw the game slipping away. If the seniors could somehow manage to make a big play, it could tip the game in their favor and the potential of a comeback.
After the timeout expires, the facilitators make 2 points. Mr. Arellano on the facilitator’s team makes an insane shot from the three-point line, leaping toward his left and shooting the ball. He later gets the ball and shoots it a foot or so from half-court. Another three, making the score 27-12 with a minute left until the 4th quarter. Mr. Granado makes a clean three-pointer, making the score 30-12 facilitators, signaling the end of the 2nd quarter.
At the start of the 3rd quarter, Luke on the senior’s team makes an early attempt for a three that was tantalizingly close but unfortunately misses. Mali’k Moore on the facilitators team made a lot of layups on fast breaks, further increasing the facilitators score to 36-12; triple that of the seniors. The game was then paused since there was a lot of spilled water on the floor The water was then mopped up. It was then paused again as Aditya Iyer slipped and fell on the floor due to improper and inefficient mopping practices. After the game was resumed for a second time, Mr. Arellano made a 3 to make the score 39 to 12 with 20 seconds left until the start of the 4th quarter. The final score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 41 to 14.
Despite the seniors’ valiant efforts to mount a comeback, the final buzzer sounded, signaling this intense showdown. The facilitators emerged victorious with a score of 47-19, showcasing their experience, strategy, and mad skillz on the court.
The seniors were no match to the facilitators, fueled by a rage to redeem themselves after previous defeats in the series. This brings the score of seniors vs. facilitators to 2-1. With the momentum in the facilitators favor, the next game will determine the victor of senior vs. facilitators.
