Although it’s still a month away, New Tech’s NTCs are already gearing up for our first Fabulous Friday of the year, Fall Olympics! So much behind-the-scenes work goes into these New Tech events. The process of selecting the games for Olympics started all the way back in August. The Fall Olympics committee has been hard at work, with Jackson Hunt serving as their committee lead. With so many people to please and only 8 game slots to fill, how does NTC finalize the games?
I spoke to Jackson Hunt (12) to get an in-depth look at how the committee selects the games for Olympics. Currently, only 2 of the 8 games have been announced. Firstly, they have decided to do a revamped version of Gaga Ball. Jackson is excited to bring it back, as it is his favorite game from the vault. The second game announced was the New Tech classic: ichi-mini-hoy. Ichi-mini-hoy is a fun take on rock paper scissors, and it’s essential to New Tech culture!
The process for selecting games is what you’d expect: a constant, ongoing discussion between all the committee members. Jackson mentioned that it’s really just a back-and-forth about different ideas and how they could possibly work for Olympics. They have a game bank full of all the previous games to pull ideas from, as well as the internet to do research. It also helps that Mr.Granado is so passionate about the event, Jackson says he is constantly showing him reels and Tik Tok’s with different game ideas!
Remember that a lot of work was put into choosing this year’s games, and into Fall Olympics as a whole. Get hyped, because as our NTC Vice President, Sarvin Narang (12), commented: “Olympics is gonna be incredible!”
